Not all salmon are the same

In the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea, where the salmon is an endangered species, wild salmon are not fished commercially. In these areas, salmon farming is therefore a major industry including for the prouction of salmon oil.

In Alaska , there is no salmon farming and all salmon are wild.

Wild salmon and farmed salmon are very different in many ways. This applies both to the life that the fish lead and the food they consume and hence their nutritional value for the consumer.

Unlike farmed salmon, which live in large net- cages with limited space, wild salmon live a natural marine life in a balanced ecosystem.
On leavinge their spawning grounds in Alaska's rivers, the salmon enter the Pacific Ocean, where they spend most of their lives. It will be 3-5 years before they return to the rivers where they were spawned in order to the species.

Salmon catch the natural food they find in the sea, in contrast to farmed salmon, which are given carefully calculated feed in accordance with the farmer's desired product.

Wild salmon gets their pink colour from the seafood they eats, this natural colour is lighter than that of farmed salmon, which gets their darker colour from feed additives.

Wild salmon have a higher content of essential omega -3 fatty acids than farmed salmon, which are partly fed with vegetable products.

Wild salmon are not medicated not as it is necessary for farmed salmon.

Sustainability

In Alaska, all salmon caught are wild and live in a natural ecosystem.

Sustainability also involves various rules for salmon fishing:
restricting the number and size of fishing boats.
stipulating the design of e.g. netting yarn.
opening and closing fisheries in response to the number of salmons returning to their natal
   streams.
